The Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative (IFLI) is a special initiative of the Boren Awards for International Study offering awardees the opportunity for intensive language study of Indonesian and for cultural immersion by participating in domestic and overseas language programs. Participants in IFLI may start with no language proficiency through advanced proficiency in Indonesian. The IFLI program is administered through the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Please read the information below and follow the links on the right for further information. Contact the IFLI office in Madison with questions: firstname.lastname@example.org or 608-263-1755.
IFLI students participate in a full-time domestic summer program offered at UW-Madison through SEASSI. Students will then travel abroad to Malang for a full-time fall semester of language and culture study. Requests for additional study through the 2023 spring semester can be made to Boren during the application process. All participants must complete both the 2022 summer domestic and 2022 fall abroad programs.
In addition to full-time language courses, students will have language partners, language conversation tables (summer), homestays (fall), and cultural excursions to help ensure that language goals are being met. Details on these additional benefits will be provided at the start of each program in summer and fall.
